Aurora Gallery back to spaceweather.com |
Summary: April began as March ended--with high latitude auroras triggered by a solar wind stream flowing from a coronal hole on the Sun. Similar streams buffeted Earth's magnetic field three more times on April 9th-11th, 14th-21st, and 27th-28th. See also the March 2003 aurora gallery. #1, #2, #3, #4 | The skies are still sunlit in these pictures of green Northern Lights over Cleary Summit. C. Johnson: "I took these at 1:15 am, (1 am is local midnight here) and as you can see we are in the middle of a sunset/sunrise at 65 degrees north. The auroras are nearly overpowered by the sun. Today we will have 16 hours and 49 minutes of sunshine and we are gaining 6 or 7 minutes every day. By June 21 the sun will be up for around 22 hours up here on Cleary Summit." |
