The display began at 9:15 local and lasted about an hour and a half. Short-lived, but very nice even through the moonglow. |

I saw these auroras when I was back home after a photo safari yesterday. The show was at it's maximum at 22:37 GMT, and with the rising moon it was a nice display. Photo details: Canon EOS 1D MK2, 17-40mm lens, ISO between 100-400, 30 seconds exp. |

About 12:30 AM I saw a ray of Aurora in the Southeast Sky. This is early in the year to see Northern Lights in this part of Alaska. The display lasted about 45 minutes and was quite nice in spite of the lack of darkness. |

I was hoping to get pics of the Perseid meteor shower but we were clouded over. I was just going to call it a night when these auroras came out through the clouds. Canon 10d, 100 film speed, 2.8 for 4-5 seconds. |

I went out to close the shutter on my camera after doing a star trails shot and to my surprise I saw these green ghost-like apparitions of the aurora flickering and pulsing in the west above the horizon, beautiful and eerie at the same time. Do you see the alien head on the right? I took this shot at approx 04:30 UTC time on Aug. 6 with my Canon Digital Rebel. |
