Who says it
needs to be cold to see the Northern Lights? +14 C and a
warm wind made it easy to stay outside last night.

Seeing the elevated
prediction and that the Aurora belt was approaching my latitude,
thanks Spaceweather! I headed out 40 miles to the country
and found some water. Things were pretty slow, then POW!
I imaged for about 2 hours. I was shooting a pair of Canon
5D2's one with the Canon EF 16-35mm f2.8L and the other
with the Sigma 12-24mm f4.5-5.6. I pushed the envelope and
used ISO 1600-5000 around 30-50 seconds on these images.
The
5D2 is an amazing camera! There was a substantial amount
of trace surface fog on the lake and a few wisps of clouds
that make the images kind of neat! Dreamy like. |

Tonight, the
were a lot of Northern Lights in the beautiful clear sky
of Salluit. I went, with some friends, to take some very
nice pictures. I was very surprised by the colors of the
auroras.

I was treated
to a triple whammy the night of August 12th, 2009. The Northern
Lights came out, there were noctilucent clouds on the horizon
and a Perseid meteor streaked across the sky. A perfect
night. |
