'Reflections in a fjord'. Despite the lack of sunspots, we have seen some great auroras the past days.

Although the lights were short lived, red streaks were visible.

Beautiful moonlit night. -30 F. Brief periods of activity with long intervals of quiescence. A closer look during these quiet interludes revealed extremely active whispy, diffuse, gossamer aurora, with instantaneous morphing shapes and patterns. Really cool, but hard to capture. ASA 400. F3.5 6-8 sec.

At the begining it seems that its gonna be quiet night. But suddenly around local midnight it started. Very bright and living aurora. Canon 350D, 400 ASA, 30-60s exposures.

These green auroras appeared around pm 22 (21 Universal time) and lasted for about 10 minutes. This picture was taken at 22.05 local time on the evening of March 06, 2006. The Moon was (and still is) half full, and it illuminated the mountainside through a patchy emerging layer of thin clouds. Photo details: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, 18 - 55 mm lens, ISO 400, 18 s exposure.

Even though the Sun is at minimum, the aurora has been beautiful in Alaska. My husband, Tim and I are enjoying a few days under the northern lights. These were taken over a three day period. The temperatures ranged from -17 to -40. They have been most active between midnight-3 A.M. These were taken with a Pentax K-1000 and a 16mm F/2.8 and an 8 mm F/ 3.5 Fisheye lens. It is the first time my camera equipment ever froze!

The trees are lit up because a car was driving by.
