Lunar Eclipse Gallery
Sept. 7, 2006

back to spaceweather.com

Summary: On Sept. 7, 2006, the full Moon dipped into Earth's shadow for about 90 minutes, producing a partial lunar eclipse visible from Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia: map. At maximum eclipse, only about 19% of the Moon was covered, but that was enough for a pretty display.

In the first three pictures, you can see Sabine holding a hoop to outline the limits of Earth's shadow: animation. Of course, I was at the right distance (about 30 m) for the hoop to have the right size. In the last picture, she paints the Moon in black. So, people think it's a Moon eclipse!

I took this photo of the lunar eclipse just after being asked a question by my son Douglas... 'Dad, why do you take so many pictures?'. He now knows the answer!

Nice partial lunar eclipse. Low altitude made it extra dramatic so just after sunset.

1/60sec 100 ASA. At moonrise our natural satellite has lost its northern pole but... not for any longer.

Perfect viewing conditions. The big orange rising moon gave its way to quite a 'bitten' moon. A nice little eclipse!

The beginning, the maximum and the end of the partial lunar eclipse of 2006 September 7. The 3 pictures are stacked to show the Earth shadow. The pictures were taken with an Canon PowerShot A510 digital camera throught my homemade 150 mm F/5 dobson telescop. Although the eclipse was so small it was very nice and few tenth people joined me to observe the eclipse in a park
