Exciting stuff this morning and for some of us it was twice lucky. A few Soutpansberg Astronomy Club members watched the reddish glow on the horison get brighter and brighter as the Sun peeped over the bushveldt and Venus could clearly be seen.

At 06:43 (SAST), no Sun and we were worried that the transit would be over by then. 30 seconds later, there it was, the planet taking close to 9 minutes to disappear off the disk, not to be seen again making its way across the solar disk for another 105 years on the 11th December 2117.

Images with Canon 30D at prime focus on 10” Meade LXD 55.
