Details:
I made the trip out to the Badlands of South Dakota in anticipation of some nighttime timelapses. Once I saw the CMEs scheduled for impact on Saturday, I got excited about the possibilities of getting auroras in such an incredible landscape. Immediately after twilight dwindled, the blue and purple pillars erupted in the northern sky and were clearly visible with the naked eye. This image was taken around 2 a.m. after they had re-intensified.
