Details:
I travelled to the far north east of the Shetland Islands, which involved two ferries and an overnight so I hoped for good weather. At sunset the sky was 80% clear so I was hopeful. Sunrise was about 3.35 AM and the Sun appeared for a few seconds partially behind clouds. It cleared enough to get some clear shots of Venus between the Earth and the Sun before thicker clouds rolled in for quite some time, clearing to thin cloud or partially clearing before a thick bank rolled in about 4.50 AM. That took until the last 35 minutes when the view cleared completely enabling me to get my best images of the event, including the black drop effect. But I had done it - seen both transits of Venus in 2004 and 2012 and, for this one, become almost certainly the first person in the UK to see this one just seconds after local sunrise that, here in Unst was earlier than anywhere else in the UK. Nikon D300, Nikkor 500 F/4. More images on Facebook here: http://fb.me/1MfxPl342
