Details:
We started watching for auroras at dusk. As it got dark we realized there was a large diffuse auroral bow to the north. We watched this bow for over an hour. It slowly lifted until it was 45 degrees up from the horizon. Suddenly at about midnight in a matter of seconds the bow broke up into rays and beams. For a while we had aurora from the southwest through north around to the southeast as well as directly overhead. This was the best show we have seen in years!
