Taken with the Coronado 60 and 32mm Plossl and Canon SX150 at ISO 400, 1/250 exposure. The large filament I noted yesterday is still there to the right side, arching around the limb as a prominence and all the way onto the far side! Really great photo op...hope someone with better scope and camera and processing skills can capture this fine example of 3D my students marvelled at.

Set your camera to video mode, black and white if possible, and capture at least 5 minutes worth of time. Then convert the video file to uncompressed .avi format using a program like VIRTUALDUB. Download the program REGISTAX, load up the raw avi file , and click the filament. Hit align, and watch the magic.

If you would like to teach your students how to make extremely vivid solar animations, check out my tutorial.

The equipment you have now should work out just fine for now.

Love what Ralph Smith did! His much sharper photo shows this long filament-prominence coupling beautifully, and gives the same 3D effect that my students marvelled at while using the C 60 visually today. I hope everyone with a H alpha scope takes a look at this great sight soon!
