Details:
Since the sun is quiet I thought Id post these old shots. I was driving back toward Spokane, WA from Kellogg, Idaho, on a cold, clear night, and noticed that the sky looked overcast, which didnt make sense. I got off the highway, saw that it was aurora, and headed for 4th of July Pass. What a show! The aurora was all around me. My view north and south was limited so I shot straight up, then west, then east. I could see details on the ground by the light. I found that I needed to keep exposures down to 12 seconds or less to preserve detail but was limited by my lens to 35mm effective in DX. I didnt have the noise reduction turned on so there are extra stars in the shots. Contrast ajusted to bring up the color and details. I could still see the aurora over Spokane city lights after I got home.
