My Beloved

Tonight was a spectacular night. This for sure was the strongest auroras so far this season. The magnetograms at the University of Tromsø went bananas!! The graphs hit the floor and almost through!! Even if Tromsø, which is a city of about 70,000 is giving a lot of light pollution, auroras was clearly visible standing in the middle of the city! It was just sick!! Curtains, rays, red, blue, purple and green auroras!! Once a year the arctic cathedral in Tromsø is lit in blue to put focus on diabetes. This was the first night it was lit blue this year, and man was I lucky to get one of the strongest outbreaks I have seen just over it, and the Tromsø bridge.

This was just a mindblowing visual and astronomical experience. I came home with almost 500GB of shots this night!

This image consist of three exposures, to be able to preserve the dynamic range at the bottom. This is the way my eyes perceived this outbreak.

Canon EOS 5D Mark III + Nikon 14-24 @14mm.

Great picture, congratulations!!!

Ive made a simple app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch that could help you to stay alert with these magnetic events. It is free, and it can be downloaded from
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/magnetic-storms/id575956246?ls=1&mt=8

Enjoy.

Best regards.

Hi,
What a fabulous image. I was in Tromso at EISCAT in 1996 and what a fabulous place! I loved the Arctic Cathedral.
The best place on Earth to see the aurora.
