Details:
I witnessed something in the sky Tuesday afternoon (11/20/2012) that made me think of a meteor. My wife took this picture while we were driving. In the picture you can see the contrails of a plane that had just gone by and was pretty far ahead of it. The actual plane creating the trail did not look anything like what can be seen in the photo.

This is a copy of a link where I found a similar image taken from a video which had been confirmed as a meteor fireball.

I would really like to know if what I have photographed here is indeed a meteor. It would be exciting if it is and if so you may put this up on your website. If it is not I would still like to know what it is.

I’m 35 years old and always watch the sunset sky for objects like this since I was about 12 when I witnessed a what could only be described as a massive group of meteors all falling like rain during the late afternoon. I have seen many objects skip or “graze” the atmosphere or burn up rather quickly. This is about the largest I have ever seen, and it was pretty big. It was moving faster than the plane making the contrail but looked to be twice as big. I am an avid enthusiast of astrophysics and astronomy and have enjoyed visiting your site at least three times a week for the last 2-3 years.

Please get back to me soon if you can.

Thank you,

In a close up view, I can see a double contrail on the rear part of the track. This phenomenon is clearly man-made, probably from a jet. The front part of the object is blurred, perhaps due to a long photo exposition or fast movement of observer/object.
