Details:
It isnt often that one can capture a planet, an asteroid, and a comet in one frame, but it is possible over the next few nights. Asteroid Vesta and Comet C/2012 K5 LINEAR are both passing near Jupiter in the Hyades star cluster. This image was taken at 10:02 PM MST on Jan 9, 2013 with a Nikon D700 digital SLR camera set at ISO 6400 and a 70mm lens at f4.5. It is a 30-second guided exposure. While Jupiter blazes at magnitude -2.6, Vesta shines at magnitude 6.5 and Comet LINEAR at magnitude 8.5. The bright star between the trio of solar system objects is 0.8 magnitude Aldebaran.
