Finally, my first auroras during this year. When I saw them I was exited just like it would have been the first time ever. Northern lights are never boring!

The weather didnt make it easy to find a good spot, though. Skies were mostly cloudy and foggy, only a small area about 60-80km towards East looked promising in the cloud forecast. So I went there and found this great open area with some trees and bushes covered by snow.

I grabbed my gear and walked through the deep snow. -27C didnt feel cold carrying all my stuff, but once I setup my camera the cold started creeping into my huge amount of clothing..

The Moon was gone when I started taking pictures and it was very dark. Millions of stars were visible all over the sky.

Shot on January 17th, 2013 near Rokua, Finland, using a Samyang 14mm with a D700.
