Details:
Ten years and one day after I photographed Comet C/2002 V1 NEAT I captured Comet C/2011 L4 Pan-STARRS in almost the exact same place with an almost exact same appearance! The top photo was taken on February 28th, 2003 at 8.22 hrs U.T. Nikon F 50mm f/1.4 15 seconds on Fuji Xtra 400 ISO film. The bottom photo was taken from the exact same spot on March 1st, 2013 at 8.18 hrs U.T. Canon 450D 35mm f/4.5 15 seconds on ISO 800.

I have seen this comet almost continuously for the past ten days and it gets brighter every night. At around magnitude 2.5 Pan-STARRS is looking like a fine comet for northern hemisphere observers when it clears evening twilight later this month. It may not be classed as a great comet but with a significant dust tail and brilliant nucleus/coma region Pan-STARRS is a classic comet well worth driving a long way to get a good view of if if it is in your sky!
