Summary: Nacreous cloud season is underway. The temperature of the polar stratosphere has dropped below -85 C, the threshold for formation of tiny ice crystals that diffract sunlight to produce flamboyant "mother-of-pearl" (nacreous) colors. Icy nacreous clouds are best seen from cold places such as Scandinavia, Iceland and Alaska during the twilight hours after sunset or before sunrise. See also January 2008.

Bright nacreous cloud during sunset. Faded as time went by. The colors were very distinct.

Todays sight was among the most beautiful sights I´ve seen so far!!! From dawn to dusk I could see these atmospheric "clouds" and also Nacreous clouds in the evening. Very strong clouds with lovely formations and colors. Greetings from a fantastic Tänndalen, Sweden.

Very unusual that you can see twice nacreous clouds in one week. That happened here but all those clouds were behind other clouds and hard to get any photos. Great colours in the sky all the Boxing Day and warm weather -2C.
