Dr Phillips, Another disappointing year for the year's supposedly best meteor shower. Aside from a real nice bolide which left behind a smoky trail lasting about ten seconds (while the moon was still up), the evening was very uneventful with no more five noticeable meteors observed until dawn. The accompanying photo is indicative of the evening and where one faint Perseid was captured during the 2.5 hours the camera was pointing just west of the north celestial pole. Further details are available on my website at http://www.perseus.gr/Astro-Meteors-Per-20080812.htm . Perhaps 2009 and the International Year of Astronomy will be fateful in relation to the Perseids. Best wishes from Greece! Anthony.
