Just before dawn, curious clouds on the horizon caught my attention. They were strangely bright relative to the rest of the sky, and as the dawn progressed, other clouds became visible. I thought they were "contrails" from aircraft, but thinking about how they became visible progressively over time lead me to believe the first were very high altitude and the latter were likely lower. A meteor smoke trail? The news of a giant fireball over the western US lends much credence to the theory... (Image taken with a Canon 20D, ISO100, 1/8 sec, f5.6)
