The Charged Aerosol Release Experiment (CARE) was conducted by the Naval Research Laboratory and the Department of Defense Space Test Program using a NASA four-stage Black Brant XII suborbital sounding rocket launched from the Wallops Flight Facility on 2009 SEPT 19. This image was made from Alexandria, VA, about 250 miles from the cloud release shortly after the burnout of the rocket's 4th stage. It is a 15 second exposure at f/4.5, ISO 50, taken with a Canon PowerShot S2IS digital camera. The bright object to the lower right of the cloud is Jupiter. The cloud was visible for about a minute before it dissipated.
