The new sunspot was so bright that it almost exceeded the dynamic range of our webcam. (To avoid overexposing the brightest areas of the sunspot, it was necessary to have the rest of the surface of the sun underexposed.)Perhaps there was some flare activity that made the sunspot area so bright?
