The recent dark filament has reached the edge of the Sun and as it rotates over the south-western limb, its true nature becomes clear. A filament is a prominence silhouetted against the solar disk. When it rotates to the edge of the Sun suddenly there's no solar disk behing it, just dark space and what appeared dark, now shines with a beauty all of its own.
