I had gotten a "heads up" email from Neil Tyson (star-struck) with a link to Joe Rao's info page abuot the CARE rocket launch from Wallops and waited in Central Park to see if it would show over NYC. The image was taken abou 7:51PM with a Canon S5IS hand held. The whole thing only lasted about 8 of 10 seconds. The initial flare looked like a very bright comet. the explosion was about 4 or 5 times the diameter of nearby Jupiter with an initial tail looking just like a ballerina's gauze skirt, and dissipated and faded fast.
