Mars was about to be occulted by a thick crescent Moon as I made this image at 1525 GMT+3, as seen from Bolu, Turkey. Dim red Mars was easily visible through the telescope. I used an 8" Meade LX10 SCT, a Canon EOS 300D camera at ISO 200 and a pair of 1/250-second exposures. Just 2 minutes before Mars disappeared behind the dark limb, which is unseen in daylight, clouds rolled in.
