Thanks to SpaceWeather.com I anticipated seeing the northern lights but due to unforeseen circumstances changed locations 3 times before settling down to watch the show. Unfortunately, in doing so I missed photographing the early peak (around 20:45 CT)and only caught the lingering glow on the horizon with an occasional faint curtain. My wife called and said the Kp dropped to 4 from the early peak of 8. Normal exposures of 15-30 seconds weren't long enough to brighten the dim lights so experimented with long exposures hence star trails. Canon 350D f/3.5 ISO 400 110 & 161 second exposures.
