Wednesday morning
from my campsite at the Nebraska Star Party by Valentine,
NE. After looking at the arc of clouds in the north for
30 minutes I realized they were not clouds! While your eyes
could not see the color the first photo I took confirmed
my suspicion that this was an auroral glow. An hour later
the glow had diminished but occasionally you were seeing
more structure in display.
Photo
details: Picture taken about 00:45 using a Canon
40D with 12mm lens, 30s at f4, ISO 1600, with some adjustments
in Lightroom and Photoshop. |

I
recieved an Aurora alert at 11:00pm. By 12:00pm I was shooting
about 60 miles from my home. It was a very impressive display
that lasted 4.5 hours! I have not slept, but it was totally
worth it!
Photo
details: Canon
5D Mark II, and a Sigma 12-24mm or a Canon EF 16-35mm
L lenses. Mostly 30 second exposures @ 800-1600 ISO. |

Solid

time.

After
over a year of little to no activity visible here I was
quite surprised to see a nice green auroral display tonight.
The aurora covered the entire northern sky however it was
primarily brightest due east of my location. |
