Last night the dance of the lights returned to our northern skies. A friend called late last night to let me know that a sudden burst of lights appeared over our northern hamlet. I grabbed my new Nikon D700 and decided to test it. This image was taken at 3200ISO with a NIKKOR 24-55mm lens at f/2.8. I enjoyed seeing the lights again.

A
clear sky at sunset revealed a light green blanket to the
north until the early hours of Sept.4 when a few storms
lit up over the course of about an hour, producing some
unexpectedly bright Northern Lights. Canon XTi, 15,20s,

The
lights started early last night before 10pm MST. It was
so bright that was visible even from the city, some local
people even came to observe. |

Since
a couple of weeks, I've been able to see the northern lights
a few time here in the Yukon, but last night display was
by far the most incredible one I've seen so far (I'm from
Southern Quebec). It was amazingly bright and moved very
quickly. According to my camera settings, it was more than
20 times brighter than the "not so bad" display I saw the
night before. |
