Summary: Solar activity continues to increase after a two-year solar minimum that ranks among the century's deepest. The return of sunspots and a resurgent solar wind is good news for aurora watchers, who are seeing some of the best displays since ~2006. See also May. 2010.

Was vacationing in northern Wisconsin when I read on spaceweather.com that there was a CME headed our way. Eagerly through out the day I awaited its arrival -- and with a long exposure photo, it didn't disappoint!

The auroras had a nice brightness and a few spikes in the arc. The only clouds in the sky were of course to the north.

On 17.40 UT my ground current instrument tell me that the shock wave from the CME was coming. Three hours later an geomagnetic storm is active, strong enough for auroras.
