Summary: Northern spring is here--and that means it's aurora season. For reasons researchers don't fully understand, the weeks around equinoxes are the best time of the year to look for Northern Lights. See also Feb. 2010.

Beautiful cold evening with the crescent moon hanging low over the mountains and the northern lights dancing above - sometimes they were so bright they turned the sea-water green.

Last week, Finnmarksløpet took place in northern Norway. Finnmarksløpet is the world's northernmost sled dog race and the longest in Europe. Every night of this years race auroras could be seen - it was awesome! Most of the time I was busy helping at the race, but at Sirma checkpoint I managed to photograph some aurora dancing right above a few of the teams that were having a few hours of well-deserved rest.
